We're Here For You

Growing success with flowers, food, and friendship

At Pinder’s, you’ll find Terri, Marvin, Kenleigh, and Ian working together to create this hub for our neighbors for inspiration, support, and a path to the garden.

After Marvin’s family moved from The Bahamas when Marvin was a college student and Pinder’s Nursery started in the first location on Honey Terrace in the 1970’s, Marvin and his father, Robert grew indoor foliage while his mother Annie made macramé plant hangers.  The property on Honey Terrace was ultimately speckled with many unplanned structures as the business grew and grew.  As folks began moving to Florida from the Northeast wanting to reproduce their summer gardens, the Pinders began growing Impatiens and seasonal color.

By the late 90’s they had purchased the land on Martin Highway and built infrastructure that would help them grow the geraniums and begonias they are now known for. At first it was wholesale only, but after Terri became involved, in 2005 the retail shop officially opened and we began teaching classes and reaching out through what is now The Community Garden Center. Ian eventually followed in his father’s footsteps and came on as a dedicated Grower, and last year, Kenleigh, who had been successfully working as a chef, brought in her talent for creating a stellar customer experience as Retail Operations Manager.

Marvin was never unsure what his profession would be, or how he would spend his days. He never lost interest in propagation or tracking the weather and growing conditions. Those are some of his constants. For the Pinders, evolution has come with what the community is looking for; whether it’s indoor plants, seasonal color, or fresh vegetables. What has held firm throughout all the trends and transitions is where the roots of their efforts lie: in a love for growing that is shared among family.  And now, gratefully, shared with our community.
