EASTER LILIES, 2009

March 19, 2011

We mark each holiday with traditions that bring joy, comfort and warmth to our lives. The Easter Lily is my favorite of the Easter traditions.  Symbolizing purity, virtue, innocence, hope and life, the trumpet shaped white flowers of the Easter Lily embody the spiritual essence of Easter.

It is said that these beautiful “white robed apostles of hope” sprung from the ground in the Garden of Gethsemane where drops of Christ’s sweat fell in his final hours. The pure white lily is also closely associated with the Virgin Mary, the white blooms symbolizing her purity, the golden anthers her soul aglow with heavenly light.  But it is the sweet perfume of the Easter Lily that evokes the warm promise of hope that this holiday represents to me.

Come welcome the hope, joy and life this flower embodies into your life . . .
