You may remember that a couple weeks ago, we told you that the garden center has become home to a pair of hummingbirds that Ann Marie has named Flash and Dash. They’re so quick and fun to follow!
You can have these mystical creatures in your garden this time of year. You have to slow down and watch for them because they are so small and fast. Sit in the garden in the late afternoon and watch the flowers. You will know the hummingbirds are around when you see a flash in the corner of your eye. Once they find your garden they will make it a regular stop for food.
There are a few plants in the garden center that we have found they like. Like Butterflies, they most enjoy the color red.
Must haves for happy hummingbirds are:
Powder Puff
Red Shrimp
Cape honey suckle
Cuphea- Candy Corn and Cigar
Salvias of all kinds
Heirloom Pentas
Porterweed
Hibiscus
Firebush
Plant a few of these around your garden, keep your eyes open, and you’ll have hummingbirds visiting you all winter long. It’s a great way to relax and enjoy the garden.
