Passionate about Passion Fruit

Yums!

It’s a realllllly delicious bite!  Add more passion into your life with Passion Fruit. Passion Fruit grows on an easy vine that is self- pollinating and can be grown on a trellis or a fence in full sun.  The vine produces a 4″ to 5″ blue flower followed by a 2″ to 3″ fruit that ripens during the late Summer.  The pulp and seeds can be used in many different juices.  To grow Passion Vine, amend the soil at planting and water daily for the first couple of weeks to establish. Once established, fertilize with a granular fertilizer 3 to 4 times a year and water as needed.  This is also a great butterfly larva plant for the Gulf Fritillary butterfly.

‘Possum Purple’ is the name of the variety we carry that ripens late Summer into Fall. The fruit can be eaten right out of the hand or made into ice cream or popsicles and tasty drinks. The pulp of the fruit can go a long way since it is very flavorful. The seeds are edible as well.  The fruit is healthy and full of fiber, magnesium, and vitamins A, and C.  Passion Vine is a great plant to grow, harvest, and then use to attract butterflies!  What’s better than a multipurpose plant?
